The Adventure Begins

Welcome to the Adventures of Boonie - a Kate and James European Adventure!

After much deliberation and travelling all around Slovakia looking for a Mobile Home we finally decided to hire a car, drive to Germany and inspect some vehicles we researched there. After 2 long days of inspecting vans and testing we finally found Boonie :D

Boonie (our 1998 Fiat Ducato Campervan) was owned by a nice German family in a beautiful area just on the southern end of Germany in a place called Friedrichshafen and used mainly for family trips and had a low 240,000km on the clock, solar panels, fridge, small kitchen, bathroom (no shower yet) and perfect layout for the back with a seating/bed arrangement for early morning views or lounging around enjoying the day.

Kate being Kate said before we return to Slovakia we have to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle, and Im glad we did. If you have not seen it before I highly recommend it - I mean cmon its the Disney Castle - no photos allowed inside so I cant show you but its something you must see if your a Disney fan, the King who built the place was a genius, the paintings and intricate detail inside is just amazing. That night we got to sleep in our campervan for the first time as it was getting late and we were tired from the day, so we found a nice spot near the Alps and pitched up.

We finally returned to Slovakia after driving 12 hours in toe (I was following Kate in the hire car while driving the van trying to get my feet wet). Once we returned it was time to get everything registered and ready for the road. This is when we realised VIN number wasnt so clear as a little bit of rust was just over 2 numbers that we needed, so we had to put our plans on hold while we get a new one. In Slovakia this means sending a letter to the Minister and waiting up to 4 weeks for a response, what a drag. But atleast this gave us some time to readjust the Van to our liking - which had to be done anyway. I got my camera out took some photos of the interior and then loaded up 3dsmax for a quick look at what we could do for the interior design. This is Kate's expertise and she had been researching all different layouts and styles for months and we finally got to dig in and see what we could achieve with our space. This is the initial concept we came up with.

We are so lucky Kate's family are very talented craftsmen, her brothers, mother and father wanted to help immediately - so we put them to work. Kates brother Matus jumped in and started rebuilding the back area for the storage seating to work as we intended, Jakub got to work breaking anything we let him (he loves breaking things), and Adam pulled the kitchen apart. Kates mother Marta and father Tonno went to the shop to find lots of little things we needed as we are apparently terrible at this - we spend hours just looking at a tile or a sink type and then return with nothing. Tonno has been rebuilding the back area for the insulation and Marta is about to sew the cusion covers for our mattress - we luckily found this exact color fabric in a local store in Novot'.  And lots of little other things like cleaning, removing stickers, headrests, etc. Heres a quick little breakdown of what we have been up to.
